In my practice I see lots of young people, from babies to older children and teens.
These children attend because they are often going through some difficulties that they have noticed or their parents or teachers have noticed. These difficulties can range from:
- Stomach pain or funny feelings in their tummy that they dont like
- Headaches which seem to come and go over a period of time
- Tiredness
- Mood swings from sadness to angry outbursts
- Ear pain
- Sensitivies to noise, smells, lights
- Difficulties concentrating
- Not able to relax
- Sleep issues
- Leg pains
- Sensory Processing Disorder
- Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Downs Syndrome
Working with the Craniosacral system is working directly with the nervous system. I use very light touch with my hands onto their fully clothed body. Depending on age they can sit and play with intervals of walking around the room, or they may want to lie down and read a book or listen to music etc. I create a very relaxed, flexible environment targeted to the age of the child.
We can chat together, draw pictures, read a book with parent involvment. We can chat about how they feel in their bodies and how they would like to feel.
Usually children going through some kind of change will seek help. This can range from:
- Starting school or new class
- Going through a growth spurt
- Changes in friendships
- Changes in family situations
- Past trauma that is presenting as pain or discomfort in the body
- Concussion
- Accidents
- Orthodontic work
- Life situations that are causing stress
In my experience of over 15 years of working with children, a balanced body, a listening ear, and reassurance that how they feel today will not last forever and with help and awareness lots can change for the better. While the body is being helped to feel more relaxed and have more ease we work together as a team so that they can feel empowered and self assured. We discuss coping strategies and mindfulness exercises.
I often tell parents after a few sessions that their child will know when and if they need to see me again, it may be a few weeks later, months or even years but I reassure them that they will know if they need my help.
Gentle empowerment is key to how I work.
The following is what one mother wrote which will describe how I work and help you decide if working with me is right for your child:
“I first went to Adrienne 4 years ago, for my son who was 8 at the time. I knew little about Craniosacral therapy, but was keen to try something different. He had been diagnosed with Dyspraxia (DCD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). He had a number of sensory issues, nervous energy and was highly emotional. All of which was impacting him at home and in school.
From day one Adrienne just totally got his quirky ways and the relaxed environment allowed him to open up about things that were bothering him. Adrienne supported and gave him the tools to manage those big feelings. He always came out of a session much more relaxed and happier in himself. He refers to Adrienne as having ‘magic hands’ to explain the feeling he gets from Craniosacral therapy.
Post Covid and at almost 12 years of age, we have been blessed to have Adrienne. Like many children that were affected adversely by the pandemic, he was experiencing alot of anxiety this year, that was impacting him negatively in school. Adrienne has been just wonderful for my son, helping him to relax and in turn open up about his feelings and worries. I can’t recommend Adrienne and Craniosacral Therapy enough, not only for children on the spectrum, but for any child needing that extra support.”
If you know of a child who may benefit from Craniosacral Therapy please get in contact.
